ABOUT GAVIN…

How did you get started in bicycle racing?
I have been going to bike races for as long as I can remember. It started as me going to watch my Dad race. I traveled all over New England watching my Dad race when I was younger.

Tell us about your first race.
My first race was a criterium in Concord, New Hampshire when I was 10 years old. I remember being the smallest one on the start line. I got lapped by the bigger and older juniors in the race. I loved flying through the corners and sprinting up the hill on the course. I went so hard that I threw up after completing the race. It was the most fun as well as the most painful thing I had ever done and I haven’t stopped racing since!

What is your favorite memory or experience on the bike?
Winning the Criterium National Championships in 2007. I had thought about winning the race all year and it was an amazing feeling to have accomplished my goal. It was also when I realized that bike racing was what I wanted to do with my life.

What makes you most excited about riding for the Trek LIVESTRONG team?
Racing around the world with some of the most talented young bike racers in the world while representing LIVESTRONG. It is a great cause for so many that are battling cancer.

What is your favorite place to ride?
The mountains of North Georgia.

What accomplishment or career achievement are you most proud of?
Representing the US at Cyclocross and Road World Championships in the same year. It took a lot of hard work and focus to balance training with regular life like attending high school to achieve this.
